How I Use SPLENDA® Sweeteners

For those of you who have read any of my blogs, you know by now that I was a “foodie” from a very young age. For example, in one of my blogs on SPLENDA LIVING™ I reminisced about my light bulb-heated oven.

While writing that blog, I did some time travel sparked by finding a historical ad online for the very same oven I had, that came with all the accoutrements and baking mixes Ah, the memories came rushing back, and hopefully, back then I had profusely thanked my parents for making me so happy; spending $10.88 for this long-desired birthday present was probably a lot of money for them.

How many of you ever had one of these ovens, either the dinosaur like I had or one of the newer models? Surely you will agree they were fun to use and no doubt taught millions of young people some of the basics of baking.

Without belaboring the issue of how I became interested in food and nutrition, there is one more point I would like to make before telling you how I love to use SPLENDA® Sweeteners. In another previous blog I reflected on one of my past experiences with baking during an experimental foods class in college. Upon finding a long-forgotten 35mm slide of a baking project, I clearly recalled that this project compared regular sugar to a popular low calorie sweetener that was available way back then. Being that this was decades before SPLENDA® Brand Sweetener became available, all of my resulting cookies were hockey puck-like except for the ones made with sugar. Had SPLENDA® Sugar Blend been available, my project would have had a much more interesting and palatable result!

So let’s cut to the chase. These are some of the ways I use SPLENDA®

First let me say, the SPLENDA® Sweetener Products that I use in the kitchen and away from home are:

And here’s how I use SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener most often:

  • On oatmeal and add few dried cranberries and/or chopped nuts
  • On low-sugar or no-sugar cereals (e.g., shredded wheat). Yes, indeed, many of these cereals are fiber bonanzas but need a touch of sweetness in my opinion!
  • On unsweetened applesauce because it just is missing something. I also like to add cinnamon or apple pie spice to the applesauce.
  • In my made-from-scratch hot chocolate - I use SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener for the sweetness I crave without all the calories from added sugar.
  • On grapefruit: Love, love, love this fruit but a bit of SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener is a MUST for me. (I also am an unsweetened grapefruit juice lover but I only will drink it with a sprinkle of SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener - it takes off that tart edge).
  • In iced tea: It’s not just for summer anymore! I drink it year ‘round (but hold the lemon please). A packet or two of SPLENDA® and lots of crushed ice – and I am a happy camper. (Truth be told, however, when I drink coffee, I like it black and unsweetened!)
  • Note: Since this would become a very long blog, I cannot go into the numerous recipes I make using SPLENDA® Sweeteners in place of sugar – so just trust me!
