“A party without cake is just a meeting.” – Julia Child

I have to say that I agree with the dear, late Ms. Child. Cake matters! Cake tastes good. Who doesn’t like cake?

However, cake is traditionally made with a whole lot of sugar, as are other desserts such as cookies, candy, pies and pastries. Until the introduction of SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener in the US in 1998, it was nearly impossible to successfully make my favorite dessert recipes with significantly less, or no added sugar.

So yes, before you read on, I admit it. I am a huge SPLENDA® Brand fan. I have used no-calorie sweeteners as far back as my college days (when saccharin was the only option), but the introduction of SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener proved to me that I can “have my (less sugary) cake and eat it too.”

With SPLENDA® Sweetener Products, you can make almost anything… from sweets like cakes, cookies and pastries to soups and side dishes…without all the added sugar.

Here are 10 sound reasons why many people (including me!) choose SPLENDA® Sweeteners...

Depending on who you talk to, winter weather at times can be almost unbearable. For a large part of the country, freezing temps, snow-covered lawns, and icy roads are what we experience when we step out the front door. It’s not my favorite season by any means but it comes like clockwork, once a year. And as the old saying goes, “What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.”

During winter, for whatever reason, many of us develop cravings for “comfort” foods that traditionally are high in sugar and fat (you know the ones I mean). So, when you arrive home after a morning of errands or from a long day at work or from an afternoon of sled-riding…and after you “de-bundle” (removing those puffer coats, cozy scarves and fleece-lined gloves), you may be looking to dig into some favorite cold-weather foods. However, it’s not a good idea to overindulge when you crave something sweet, warm and comforting.

If you haven’t started yet, now is a good time to start cutting back on your added sugar intake, as health experts recommend. So, to help you with easy substitutions for sugar, here are a few wonderful recipes made with SPLENDA® Sweeteners to make this winter.

We hope you enjoy them all, from unique hot chocolates to oven-baked treats that use apples and a SPLENDA® Sweetener instead of full sugar.

It’s that time of year again. Groundhog Day.

And, oh yes. The “Big Game.” A football game that is watched by more than 100 million fans around the world. Fans gather far and wide to watch their favorite teams play, while as spectators, many of us will consume way too many calories from football party food and drinks.

You probably know the drill. It happens every year: a fun-filled sports event marked by a day of mindlessly noshing way too much, with eyes glued to a big screen TV.

You can easily game-plan ahead for football munchies that won’t draw a red flag on your health-focused New Year’s resolutions. Here are some of my favorite recipes that call for less sugar that you may want to try. All are made using SPLENDA® Sweeteners.

We hope you enjoy these smart plays for football party food recipes as well as the Big Game…and may the best team win.

The beginning of a new year is the time when many people make resolutions to live a healthier lifestyle.

Are you among those who are determined that “this is the year I’m going to start an exercise plan and eat healthier!”? Without a doubt you are one of millions who are mentally geared up and excited about kicking off 2018 with a healthy lifestyle plan.

While you may not like it, exercise – regular physical activity – is an important crucial component of your plan. The benefits of an exercise plan are many, even during cold weather. “Exercise boosts your immunity during cold and flu season. Just a few minutes a day can help prevent simple bacterial and viral infections,” according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

True or false?

Turkey was the “entrée” of the first Thanksgiving meal.

That is true, according to Smithsonian Magazine, and as we do today, turkey was complemented with side dishes. However, the first Thanksgiving meal was a far cry from what we serve these days. Can you imagine how in awe those first celebrants would be if they were to see how we celebrate Thanksgiving, with a wide-ranging assortment of foods that span from calorie-filled side dishes to heavy sugar-laden desserts?

Sometimes I am in awe of how many calories and how much added sugar many people eat on Thanksgiving day. Is it really necessary? I don’t think so, and many of you might agree: we eat way too many calories on this special occasion, and many of those calories come from added sugars in the side dishes and desserts.

If this is the year you want to make your feast one that is not as sugary but just as delicious, here are some Thanksgiving side dish recipes you will want to try: Cranberry Apple Relish, Deliciously Simple Applesauce, Gourmet Sweet Potato Casserole. And for dessert, you can’t miss with Pumpkin Bread Pudding or Happy Holiday Pumpkin Pie.

All of these delectable Thanksgiving side dish recipes use a SPLENDA® Sweetener in place of sugar to keep the great taste without all the calories. Same for the dessert recipes – heavy on the delicious flavor, lighter on the added sugar!
