Summertime Less Added Sugar Dessert Recipes: SPLENDA® Sugar Blends Can Make That Happen!

Just because it is summer and hot temperatures are the forecast du jour, there is no reason to stop preparing delicious homemade desserts.

Summer is also the time when we have finally shed our heavier clothes and opt for lightweight garments that may reveal those few extra pounds gained during gloomy winter months. For those who want to reduce calories from added sugar, here are some divine less added sugar dessert recipes you will want to try.

Each recipe is made with one of the SPLENDA® Sugar Blend products – either Sugar Blend or Brown Sugar Blend. SPLENDA® Sugar Blend is a mix of SPLENDA® Brand Sweetener and sugar, while SPLENDA® Brown Sugar Blend is a mix of SPLENDA® Brand Sweetener and brown sugar, both with only half the calories and carbohydrate of full sugar per serving. Each offer you a way to lower the added sugar content in recipes that normally use only white or brown sugar. Just a half-cup of SPLENDA® Sugar Blend replaces a full cup of sugar.

SPLENDA® Sugar Blend products add sweetness and moistness as well as provide browning and volume to baked goods just like full sugar. So if you are looking to cut back on your carbohydrate intake (and specifically reduce added sugars in your diet) this season, may I suggest you give these summertime recipes a try?

To start in your quest to “have your dessert and eat it too” (with less added sugar!), here are three recipes that use SPLENDA® Brown Sugar Blend.

Banana and Cream Cheese Empanaditas are perfect for summer. These “tiny turnovers with a sweet banana and cream cheese filling” are perfect for an afternoon snack or unique dessert – you can find this empanadas recipe.

Of course, Chocolate Chip Cookies are in demand year-round. This recipe is made with SPLENDA® Brown Sugar Blend, thus reducing the amount of added sugar in each cookie.

Fresh-from-the-orchard peaches are just waiting for you to try this Peach Almond Crisp recipe that combines the goodness of fresh fruit with oats and almonds. This yummy recipe uses two SPLENDA® Sugar Blend products, much the same way a traditional recipe would call for both white and brown sugar.

Like the brown sugar version, I also love the way SPLENDA® Sugar Blend can be used to lower the added sugar content of many recipes.

Surprise your family and guests with this Cool Raspberry Soup. “Fruit soup makes a very special appetizer, a cool summer dessert, or can even be the focus of a light summer lunch menu. This raspberry soup sparkles with berry flavor, and is a lovely pink color.”
